“Having that immersive environment in both languages where home is English, school is Spanish, in a very thorough way, creates these connections in the brain that are permanent and lifelong. It creates the foundation for more mental flexibility, better math skills, and verbal skills in both languages and these connections are actually permanent. The research on children who are raised in a bilingual environment from those first five years of life and how that impacts them in terms of cognitive abilities lifelong is so amazing to see. But the cool thing is, even if kids that graduate from my program do not go on to do Spanish immersion in elementary school, if they choose to study Spanish or live abroad or travel or be immersed in Spanish again later in life, it will come back to them so much easier because they were exposed to it in those first five years.” – Natalie Standridge
